About

Some years ago, the New York Times Review of Books published a series of stories by well-known authors based on their interpretations of Edward Gorey pictures.  Dave Barry wrote a story called “Karl’s Tree”.  In it, a family’s pet alligator, Karl,  is banished to his bog as a result of the “unfortunate incident on Thanksgiving Day when Karl, momentarily forgetting his manners, had eaten the cat.”  Naturally, Karl is eventually forgiven and allowed to rejoin the family after suitable begging by Little Walter as Karl trims the luxurious Christmas tree by his bog.

Subsequently, my basement workshop was called Karl’s Bog.  After blogging about the 2012 presidential election, I needed to change the blog’s name. It came to me in the middle of the night as I was thinking about the new name that I already had one.  Thanks to Kate for the inspiration!
